Happiness Is

happinessis002

What’s happiness?

I have come to a crossroad in my life recently and have had to make some difficult decisions for my future. While it doesn’t feel good right now, I believe soon, I will experience a wealth of joy…even though it hasn’t been entirely easy to come to this point. But life has a lot of little moments to point us in the direction of knowing what happiness really is.

Like a smile on my daughter’s face…

and a spin in the park.

Like going on a road trip with friends…

happinessis008

and seeing things up close and personal for the first time ever!

Like endless rows of Goldings…

happinessis010

…and Bosworths.

happinessis011

Or, seeing extremely beautiful craftsmanship as it meets function.

happinessis012

Maybe being surrounded by people who share enthusiasm for the same things.

happinessis013

Or, finding good deals on things you love.

happinessis014

happinessis015

Seeing beautiful tapestries.

happinessis016

Or, meeting up to play show and tell with buddies.

happinessis017

happinessis018

Seeing baby sheep…

happinessis019

…and getting baaa’hed at, lol!

happinessis020

Or, putting away your first batch of goodies at the car.

happinessis021

Like sitting out on the grass for a picnic…

happinessis022

happinessis023

…eating nothing of nutritional value whatsoever.

happinessis024

Or, snapping photos of exotic-to-me breeds that I’ve heard of, but never seen.

happinessis030

happinessis031

Like listening to famous writers on a great fibery subject…

happinessis028

..and watching child-, dog- and sheep-whisperer, Laurel’s way with livestock.

happinessis032

Or, seeing beautiful handspun and fleece without having to keep my hands to myself…

happinessis033

…while watching sheep get shorn.

happinessis034

Or, maybe like seeing beautifully arrayed and colorful yarn balls and braids…

happinessis035

happinessis049

…or walls of them. :)

happinessis036

…and watching spinning wheels rain from the sky!

happinessis037

Or, like looking at a demo of one of my future compact spinning wheels

happinessis038

…noting how it holds everything necessary, like it’s own oil and Lazy Kate…

happinessis039

happinessis040

…and how it fits into a small canvas bag.

happinessis041

Like oohhing and aahhing over exotic knitting needles and joking that I know they wouldn’t last a minute in my daughter’s presence.

happinessis042

Like seeing a freshly shorn alpaca…

happinessis043

…and him seeing you too.
happinessis044

Or, seeing vendors of every kind, passionate about they’re crafts…

happinessis046

…and standing in booths of Ravelry phenoms.

happinessis047

Or walking into the tent of an auction and seeing tons of wonderful devices you could own someday.

happinessis048

Like seeing a sheep auction for the first time…

happinessis050

happinessis051

happinessis052

happinessis053

…and peaking every so often back into your bag to see your newest little treasure.

happinessis054

Or, like spinning with a friend on the trip home after a wonderful day.

There are plenty of other things that point us toward the meaning of happiness. But, the greatest thing about happiness to me is that, while all these things put a smile on my face-as they should-true happiness comes from within. And when it does, even though you may have hard times, there’s nothing that can take it away.

  1. One of the reasons why I really LOVE reading your posts is because you always have these pictures that take my mind away to a place while my physical self is still sitting on my chair in my study. Thank you so much for sharing, as usual, and may you start feeling a sense of happiness real soon! :)

  2. Reading your post and seeing your pics made me happy! That poor alpaca looks so funny and skinny!

  3. I wish you the inner happiness that you are seeking and hoping that the decisions you’ve made will lead you into that direction. In the meantime, I enjoyed seeing all of the wonderful “happy” things that you’ve shared. :-)

    • Thanks, Libby! Well, I have peace and joy. It’s not a happy situation. But inner strength is better than happy, I think. :) I certainly enjoyed the day I had though!

  4. Hitchhiker! Augh I want one.
So jealous of everyone off playing at MDSW this weekend. Looks spectacular.

    • I think I want the Road Bug. I heard they’re noisy things. But, you never really know if you will like something unless you try it yourself. I may love it! I always did like the sound of roller skates. :)

  5. Love it, wish I was there. It’s fabulous the way children’s smiles can make you feel too, my granddaughter makes me happy (mixed with crafts fairs would be heaven)

  6. Amanda says:

Goodness, I can’t believe that I didn’t go yesterday (am off to MDSW this morning) but still, what a lovely day. ;->

  7. Laurel1215 says:

LOVED being able to spend the day with you, toots — it brought me much happiness!

  8. I so whish I could have been there … It looks like you had the most wonderful day! I hope everything is okay with you! Sending you lots of love! :D

  9. It looks like you had a wonderful time. Those lambs are adorable and so is your new spindle.

  10. Love that despite being at your crossroads, you can still find joy in the everyday! Beautiful story in pictures as usual.

So loving the yarn haul. :D

  11. Love this! And did someone get a Journey Wheel? I want one of those for my second wheel so bad.

    • I didn’t get a wheel…THIS time. ;) I heard there’s another sheep and wool in this area later this year, so maybe then. But I was actually interested in the Road Bug. Seems as though it’s one of those wheels where some love it and others don’t. I have to try it for myself. PLUS, the demo just looked so cool!

  12. Is that a Road Bug? I want one so much!

  13. such an interesting reading, lovely folks, animals, tools and wool, thanks for sharing! it makes me want to try spinning…. well, bought a few used books to have a read about as a start :)

  14. Ohh, pedals shaped like feet! I love it! I had never heard of that wheel, and of course, now I want one!
