I'm a little bit jam, but Friday was New Wheel Day as my mom bought me a Hitchhiker as an early birthday gift so it's hard to be too much preserved fruit juices. (Initial impressions: not a silent wheel--but pretty quiet now that I've oiled out the random squeaks, bobbins are really tiny and cute compared to my other wheel, so comfy to spin from my couch, not comfortable plying on it yet, VERY fast and light.) I don't suppose there were any tips for winding about a thousand yards onto a 2-yard niddy noddy without wanting to punch yourself in the face in that workshop, were there?

that's an interesting trick, definitely love to avoid wasting the yarn... how do you get the strands to "bound together" (sorry for the non-tech term!)? so far, I just put the two strands together without any particular bounding, which then results in a more difficult knitting experience. From what it is said, it looks like there are different techniques to ply the yarn, any hint at some good overview or intro? many thanks for your time and help :)

With a ball winder, you would be plying both ends of the ball. So, the center pull strand and the outside strand would be the beginning and you just ply until the ball is spent (or you want to stop). The best thing about plying that way is there are no leftovers, should you ply the entire ball. I love that. It's like Andean plying bracelets. Only without the blue fingernails, lol (well, for me anyway).
